RU SALSA BAND

Trip Home Page

This Website is a work in progress to share with you the experiences of the Rutgers University Salsa Band's Cultural Journey through Puerto Rico. Officially, this trip was a summer course entitled:

SPECIAL TOPICS IN MUSIC: RESEARCH IN ETHNOMUSICOLOGY

Taught by Professor Nanette de Jong,

and sponsored by the Center for Latino Arts & Culture.

There were a few students that were enrolled in the class that were not official band members, but they were very helpful to the band, and even played and rehearsed with us, enriching their experience as well, as they too got hands on Latin music experience in Puerto Rico! We all learned a great deal about the history, culture and music of Puerto Rico. We also has a great time!

We will all miss everyone we met there, especially Louis Soto, our friend, bus driver, and personal guide to the island. We were in the bus on the average of 6 hours a day, but at least we weren't driving..

The Map will show you everywhere we went.  Click on the Calendar to follow us through our daily journey of exploration and enlightenment...
