Tim's teaching and conducting philosophy is largely performance- based, with emphasis on the end result of study. He says "Of course in an ensemble setting this is quite obvious, but in a classroom setting this end result may not be as apparent except to the student and the teacher. That is why teaching is such a rewarding profession-- the student- teacher relationships that develop."

Tim is also an endurance athlete, running in marathons and triathlons. Why? "It fits in perfectly with my performance-based teaching philosophy; I do it for the feeling of doing my best to cross the finish line."
