Don Juan, Op. 20 - Richard Strauss
3 October 2003, Nicholas Music Center
Kynan Johns' debut as the orchestra's conductor.
"Don Juan, Op. 20" is a varied composition that floats in a calming pond of serenity in parts, (like the woodwind section in the middle of the piece), and speeds hastily in others. There is a marked use of the trumpet for added effect and thematic connectivity, as well as tremolo strings that evoke a hastening feel in a few measures. -- InternetEd Music Review Site
