RUTGERS CHILDREN'S CHOIR
Announcing auditions for new members

Who can try out?
If you like to sing, your voice hasn’t changed, and you will be in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 in the fall, you may audition.

When are rehearsals?
RCC rehearses on Wednesday evenings (approximately 6:30-8:30) on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers from September to May. Your exact rehearsal time will depend on which choir you are placed in, based on your audition. There are currently 2 choirs: Apprentice and Chamber singers.

What will we do in choir?
In RCC, you will meet other kids who enjoy singing, and you’ll learn some great music. We sing traditional secular and sacred choral music by great composers of the past and present. We also sing songs from different cultures and languages. We usually perform two concerts at Rutgers each year: one in December and one in May.

Do I have to be able to read music to be in the choir?
No! You’ll learn about reading music and other skills in choir.

How much does it cost to be in the choir?
There is a one-time enrollment fee for the year, payable in October. In cases of financial hardship, there may be scholarships available. You must also be committed to attending every rehearsal and performance with a good attitude and behavior, and you must provide your own concert attire: black knee-length skirts for girls, black pants for boys, and long-sleeved white button-down oxford shirts for everyone.

Who is the director?
Dawn Golding has been the director for the past 6 years. She is assisted by students of the Mason Gross music education program.

What do I have to do to try out?
Be prepared to sing one verse of either America (My country ‘tis of thee) or America the Beautiful (Oh beautiful for spacious skies) without accompaniment. Please bring a photo of yourself to the audition. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 14th, Monday, May 19th and Thursday, May 29th. Please call for an appointment.
