mechanical details |
The MusicWeb server machinery started life in 1991 as an Iverson 386SX-16 PC, upgraded with a slightly-used Pentium 133 motherboard, 32 Megs RAM, and a 5 Gigabyte hard drive.
In mid-2001 it was replaced with a lightly-used AMD K6/2-350, 128M RAM, and a larger drive.
Web-server software is Xitami 2.4.
It lives in Walters Hall on the Douglass campus.
Inside Walters, speeds of 900K/second can be demonstrated. Outside Walters, speeds rarely exceed 500K/second due to campus and Internet congestion. While the machine's specs seem modest, they are more than ample.
